Abu Dhabi Taxis accept credit and debit cards. Card readers are expected to be installed in taxis by June 2023. Once installed, you can swipe card to make payment. Alternatively, you can download Abu Dhabi Taxi or PayBy mobile app. In the app, you can make payment using card by scanning QR code shown on taxi meter after completing your trip.

Important Update: Abu Dhabi Integrated Transport Centre (Transport Authority) is installing credit/debit card readers similar to POS machines to all the taxis. Most of the taxis are already equipped with card readers. By June 2023, all taxis are expected to have card readers. Passengers can easily make card payments by swiping the credit/debit card in taxis having card readers are installed.

How To Pay Taxi Fare By Credit Card?
- You can book you taxi trip using the Abu Dhabi Taxi Mobile App or by calling Abu Dhabi phone number (+971 600-535-353) or directly on road. You can pay by using credit/debit cards or cash in all these three cases. AED 4 extra charges are applicable if taxi is booked by Abu Dhabi Taxi App or by calling Abu Dhabi phone number (+971 600-535-353). - If Abu Dhabi taxi has card reader, you can swipe credit card or debit card to make payment after completing your trip.
- If taxi does not have card reader, you can make payment as per below alternative approach.

- Register your Credit card or Debit Card in the Abu Dhabi Taxi App or PayBy App.
- Once you reach the destination ask taxi driver to show QR code on taxi meter.
- Open Abu Dhabi Taxi app or PayBy App and click on ‘Scan to Pay’ option. It will show you trip details including fare. Click on Pay button to pay by Credit Card.

Abu Dhabi Airport Taxis
Abu Dhabi Airport taxis are available mostly on Airport. They can accommodate upto six passengers. These type of taxis are visible in airport area but not frequently in city. Minimum charge for this type of taxis is AED 25 but meter starts from AED 5.
You can book these taxis directly at airport but to book inside city you need to use mobile app or by calling Abu Dhabi Taxi number (+971 600-535-353). These taxis accept both cash and cards.
Abu Dhabi Family Taxis
Abu Dhabi Family taxi is a 7 seater taxi intended for families. Number of passengers allowed are up to 6. It has lady taxi driver. This type of taxis are fewer in numbers. Minimum charge for this type taxis is AED 12 but meter start from AED 5.

Abu Dhabi 7-Seater Taxis
Abu Dhabi 7-Seater taxi is similar to Family taxi but has gent taxi driver. It is ideal if number of passengers are more than four but up to 6. Minimum charge for this type taxis is AED 12 but meter start from AED 5.

Is Credit Card Payment Preferred Option?
Government (Abu Dhabi Integrated Taxi Centre) prefers credit/debit card payments to boost cashless transactions. They give incentives to taxi drivers if passengers make payments by credit or debit cards.
However, on the ground, I have not seen taxi drivers encouraging passengers to make online payments. As far as tourists or locals are concerned, they can opt for any of the two ways to pay the fare.
Abu Dhabi Taxi Charges For Credit Cards Or Cash
Abu Dhabi taxis are cheaper as compared to US or European taxis.
Taxi charges for cash and credit/debit card are same for the passengers. For city taxis, minimum fare is AED 12 whereas for airport taxis minimum fare is AED 25. However, the meter starts at AED 5. For subsequent kilometres charges are AED 1.82 per kilometer.

Do taxis in Dubai accept credit cards?
As per Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) guideline, all the taxis in Dubai have POS machines. Therefore you can use credit card, debit card, smartphone via Apple Pay or Samsung Pay. However, many taxi drivers do not accept card stating that POS machines are not working so be prepared to use cash.
POS machines were installed on all Dubai taxis in 2019 to encourage cashless payments.
